Phaser 840/850 Printers: Resolving white, light lines or streaks
|
|
The following is a procedure on resolving print quality problems related to white, missing areas or lines that follow the long side of the printed pages. After completing each solution below resend the original print job to ensure the print quality problem has been resolved.
- Clean the Maintenance Drawer wiper blade.
- Check the Maintenance Roller.
- Empty Waste Tray B. The waste tray is part of the maintenance tray.
- Check for media (paper) under the exit cover.
- Clean the Rapid Release Guide.
- Verify the printer is on a stable surface, not near an air vent or in a dusty location.
- Using the printer's front panel keys print the Diagnostic Test Pages.
- With Menu highlighted, press the Select key.
- Scroll to Troubleshooting by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down key.
- Press the Select key.
- Phaser 840: scroll to Print Test Page by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down key.
Phaser 850: scroll to Print Diagnostic Test Pages by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down key.
- Press the Select key to print the test page(s).
- Evaluate the test page for weak or missing jets. See example test page below.
- If there are no missing jets or partially missing then the print quality problem of white lines has been fixed.
- If there are missing or partially missing jets then a printhead cleaning will need to be performed. To clean the printhead follow the steps below.
Printhead Cleaning
- With Menu highlighted, press the Select key.
- Scroll to Troubleshooting by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down key.
- Press the Select key.
- Scroll to Eliminate Light Stripes.
- Press the Select key to perform a printhead cleaning and print the test page(s).
Note: Eliminate Light Stripes can also be performed from the Troubleshooting tab in the Adobe driver.
- Evaluate the diagnostic test page for weak or missing printhead jets. See example test page from step 8.
- If there is still a missing or partially missing jet, repeat the eliminate light stripes procedure up to three times in a row, if necessary.
- If the problem persists remove the maintenance tray and check for ink accumulation in the waste tray. If the tray is locked, close the front cover and wait a few minutes for the printer to unlock the tray.
If there is only a few drops of ink or a very small amount of ink in the waste tray there is probably a problem that will require a service call to fix. See the following link to see the normal amount of ink that accumulates in the waste tray after one printhead cleaning (14KB). If the amount of ink accumulation is normal go to the next step.
- For a Phaser 850 printer, download a JetFix snippet file to the printer as this may fix a weak or missing jet. This snippet file will not work on a Phaser 840 printer. Reference Downloading a JetFix Snippet File to the Printer for instructions. If JetFix is not successful, try the next step.
- Turn the printer off for at least 4 hours (8 hours or overnight is recommended).
- Turn the printer on. After the printer warms up print the Diagnostic Test Pages and, if necessary, perform the Eliminate Light Stripes procedure one more time.
- After the last cleaning, print and evaluate the test page for weak or missing jets. If there are still weak and or missing jets service will be required.
